Whoever coined the expression ‘dream big’ must have had in mind what I’m feeling right now. Well, I can relate to the phrase, though I’m not quite sure if the meaning is synonymous to what I’ve been experiencing over the past few days.  Call them lucid dreams; mainly coz of the fact that I wake up with my heart pounding like the ‘tom-tom’ drums of West Africa (I think I used that expression in a good majority of the essays I wrote in primary school!) Good times.  Great times.

To be honest, I was pretty confused every time I woke up. It’s like my memory got swept clean right before I woke up. This wasn’t funny. All I could remember were bits and pieces which made even less sense as disjointed as they were; never mind the complete dream. So I had to consult my good friend. Google. We‘ve been mates for a while now. I can’t quite remember the search phrase I used but the results I got back were mainly those concerning  plummeting from ungodly heights to your death, and those inexplicable naked dreams that are uncomfortable to discuss with anyone. And teeth dreams.  Really?  What are teeth dreams? Anyone? I think it’s safe to say was not experiencing any of the above.

This other site took a totally unorthodox approach, but it made a bit of sense to me. Said that I should attach a voice recorder to the head of my bed and hit record just before I fell asleep, you know, in case I mumbled something overnight. Well, this is obviously absurd because I do not sleep talk. I think. Plus, I kept losing sleep every time I hit record just before I fell asleep. I didn’t want to waste precious recording space so I would keep waiting till I started dosing off then I would get up and press record. This was clearly not working for me.

Interesting though-what I came across on this one website. A dream dictionary that boasts having interpreted over 5,300 dream-related keywords and over 20,000 symbols. I do give them credit though coz they did specify that these interpretations are in no way the final say in what your dream means, but hopefully will inspire you to explore something, something . . . I got impatient and went straight for the juicy bits.

Okay, they’re not horrific dreams or anything; at least not what I can remember of them.  Mostly it’s just random stuff. Immensely random stuff. To the tune of an old-school tweaked up Mercedes Benz that I was driving but couldn’t park or get out of mainly coz it kept edging backwards of cliff every time I tried to park it. A reckless biker who would emerge periodically through the length of my dream and do some crazy, dangerous stunt and speed off.  WTH?

I tried typing this description (see paragraph above) into the key-word search textbox of the site but this got me nowhere. Anyway, having come across new findings, I quickly forgot about what I gone to search for. Some pretty intriguing stuff I must say. I took the liberty of compiling a list of those that caught my eye.

Automobiles or vehicles

Vehicles that you ride in usually reflect two things; the direction you are heading in life, and your body. (the thing you travel or “ride” through life in) This might vary if you are a mechanic or designer of vehicles. Unusually over exposure to a specific vehicle type may easily change the meaning. The condition of the vehicle might give you an idea of your health. Driving an old beat up car down a muddy road on a stormy night would be considered a pretty bad dream! However flying a Lear jet through blue skies with a song in your heart and the wind at your tail would be a rather good dream. 🙂

Children

A child represents to most of us, something new, different and joyous. Using this logic, it is easy to see why a child represents a new phase in your life or a new project as well. How well the child gets along and fares in the dream is an indication as to how well what it represents is doing. Also, a child symbolizes innocent parts of yourself sometimes, and at other times, immaturity and childishness. It all depends on the theme and emotions used in the dream.

Clothing

When you get into different moods you tend to choose different clothing, so clothing, for this reason best symbolizes your mood or state of mind. They also signify attitude. We wear clothing for all sorts of different reasons including, work, dating, play and social occasions. Attitudes and moods are similar to clothing in this regard, they are the camouflage we hide behind, our face we put on for the world in various situations so we can better cope. Take a look at what you, or other people in your dream are wearing to get even more clues to the dream’s meaning. Also, a commonly overlooked clue is sometimes you see clothes on a clothes line, or lying around. It would be a good idea to take note as to what style and condition the clothes you see are.

Death

Nearly any dream you have that refers to death, dying or attending a funeral, or the like, pertain to change. Most all the time this change is very dramatic and major. It can be change in your life attitude or emotional balance. These types of dreams can also symbolize confronting fear, usually fear of death or change. Since most of us will agree that death is the ultimate change, and many people fear it. Death dreams are generally big changes and should never be ignored. Sometimes they really do signify death! Another possible symbol of a death dream is threat. Whichever suits the dream depends on how well the theme was arrived at. Most death dreams are about major change and not about literal death though, so don’t panic if you have one. Just patiently go through the analysis process, and make sense of it.

Buildings

The building in a dream usually points directly to a specific area of your life. Dreaming of being in an office complex, or factory can pertain to your working environment. It does not need to specifically pertain to your exact line of work. In other words, an office worker dreaming of a loading dock still can relate the dock to work, because that’s the association made in his mind. A bathroom, may pertain to your general health and hygiene habits, and a kitchen might be about your eating and nutrition. What you associate different locations to mean in general, usually points to what the dream was getting at specifically. To dream of your childhood house, tends to be a reflection of your life today though. A dream of mass chaos in your childhood home can indicate great disturbances in your life either now, or coming shortly. These kinds of dreams are often prophetic. You should always write down and deeply analyze dreams of your childhood dwelling. Dreams of great buildings like cathedrals and large churches usually indicate the dream has a great meaning, and should be taken seriously, as well as any applied association.

People

People most often portrayed in dreams are actually reflections of your own personality traits, provided the dream is not prophetic. These traits are ones that you need to enhance or develop, or if negative, work on eliminating or reducing. You should immediately ask of yourself, what traits do I like, and what traits do I dislike in the characters I dream about? Then look for those traits in yourself. You may be very surprised to find a match up! People in dreams work most commonly to reflect, or mirror important aspects of your personality. You do well to always make this association.

Poker Chips

To see poker chips in your dream symbolize the uncertainty of life. Sometimes you need to take a chance.

Polygraph

To see a polygraph in your dream represents your lack of confidence. You are experiencing a loss of faith in others.

To dream that you are taking a polygraph suggest that it is time to face the facts. You are trying to hide from the pain. Stop being in denial.

Exam

To dream that you are taking an exam signifies insecurities, fear of not meeting others’ expectations and fear of failure. You may find that you cannot answer any of the questions on a test, that the test is in some foreign language or that your pencil keeps breaking during the test. Perhaps time is running out and you cannot complete the exam in the allowed time. It may mean that you tend to believe in the worst about yourself and are often overly worried that you are not making the grade and measuring up to other people’s expectations of you.

Some were just plain old funny:

Pinocchio

To see Pinocchio in your dream suggests that you or someone are not being truthful in some situation.

Pogo Stick

To see or play with a pogo stick in your dream represents life’s ups and downs. If you do not have control of your pogo stick, then it indicates that you are all over the place in your emotions and thinking. You need to focus and zero in on one issue at a time. Alternatively, being on a pogo stick may be analogous to sex.

Acne

Please See Pimples.

Pimples

To dream that you have a pimple relates to issues about your self-esteem and self-image. You are feeling awkward or out of place in some situation or relationship.

Potato Chips

To see or eat potato chips in your dream symbolize your overindulgent behavior. Perhaps you need to exercise more self control. Or just exercise. Period!

As you can see, they are just too many to list. I didn’t find answers to what I was looking for, but I sure as hell found out a lot.

It’s highly unlikely but maybe one day after I’ve read all that there is to do with dreams, people will line up to lie on my office couch and ask me about their dreams. They will pay huge lump sums of money for this and as a result of my outrageous success, I will be rich as shit. Like all rich people, I will write a book, prior to which my blog will have been discovered and because I am rich and famous, I shall call a press conference only say that I told you so. Oh happy day!
